WHAT TO WEAR FOR FALL PHOTOS: PART 1
POPULAR FALL 2017 FASHION | WHAT TO WEAR FOR FALL PHOTOS: PART 1: DRESS MOM FIRST
This is part 1 of a series of 3 posts coming at you to help you in your endeavor on looking absolutely perfect for those Fall photos! Never wonder what to wear for those Fall photos again!
So let me guess, do you normally buy super cute clothing for your babies and then style the rest of everyone’s wardrobe around them? Do you then spend so much time picking apart your own outfit and want to rip your hair out afterwards? Well let me tell you a secret…. shhhhhh… are you ready for this?
…. I pick my own outfit first! I want to be comfortable. Let’s face it, if Momma’s not feeling amazing in her outfit, she’s not going to love the photos because she will spend that time picking herself apart. … I mean, I’m not wrong, right?
So what do we do about this? Look through your closet first, know what makes you feel amazing. Go shopping for those “wham, bam, thank you ma’am” I am the bomb-diggity in this, extra pieces.
Need some help? Okay let’s get started…
Step 1: Wardrobe Staples! What style makes you feel amazing? Jeans? Simple? Dressy? Flowy? Hippie? You know we all have that one style. Go with that! Don’t go so far out of your comfort zone that you are picking at yourself the entire session. You probably already have some staples in your closet! Run and go check! Do you have your favorite pair of pants that fit you just right? Maybe the perfect cute little dress? Or a top that just makes you feel like you’re ready to take on the world!Step 2: Put an out fit together! Have some fun with this one!! This step can also be broken down into a few additional steps if we’re really getting picky…
(1) Color: Choose a Fall-like color that you want as your statement color. You’ll use this throughout the wardrobe planning for the entire family. You don’t want the color head to toe, but subtle pops of color scattered throughout is perfect. Some great choices for Fall would be mustard yellow/goldenrod, navy blue, maroon and even purple. Go with those deep colors for the full Fall look. You want to stay away from neon colors. These don’t photograph well and usually will leave weird color casts on skin and other light colored clothing.
(2) Patterns: This one can get tricky. You want a little variety in there, but woah! Hold up! You don’t want too many patterns in the family wardrobe because your eye won’t know where to look and people will be so busy looking at the different patterns, they may not see the adorable facial expressions your littles are giving! You also don’t want too many stripes/polka dots/more stripes/flowers/etc because the overall effect can end up clashing and you won’t end up with that flowy gorgeous Fall look you were going for. Remember, when in doubt, put 1-2 people in some statement prints and keep everyone else fairly simple, while adding in some color and texture in their outfits.
(3) Layers: Keep in mind, it’s Fall, layers are key to nailing the “what if’s” regarding the question, “Will it be hot? Or cold?” Plus, how fun is that adorable jacket or that scarf?!
Step 3: Shoes! Ooooooo yeah! We all love shoes. Most important thing to factor in here, where are you getting your photos taken at? Are you able to comfortably walk in these shoes? Will you be standing on grass for most of your session? Also, shoes can be a great way to add a pop of color that you can tie in elsewhere as well.Step 4: Accessories!!!: Accessorizing can really complete your entire outfit. Keep it simple with a couple of bracelets… Add in that perfect necklace (pair it well with the neckline of your shirt!)… And maybe even some earrings. Go glam or keep it low key. Remember, you want to feel amazing on picture day!Okay so now YOU should be all set for your close up… Stay tuned for Part 2: Dressing the babies and kids! This one will include some of my favorite stores to shop at for the little ones.
… Just for fun, here are some of my past sessions that I believe have nailed it at wardrobe! (sidenote: This does not include everyone, just some personal favorites – please nobody take offense!)
