New Philadelphia OH photographer | feature friday with Stutzman’s Landscaping
April showers bring May flowers… Or at least, that’s what we’re hoping holds true this year. 😉 The day I went to photograph Stutzman’s Lawn & Landscaping in New Philadelphia, of course it was pouring rain 90% of the day. Everyone there was very accommodating and Staci was adorable and so sweet in answering my questions and posing for her photo.
Don’t forget about Mother’s Day which is quickly approaching. I’m sure Mom (or Grandma) would love some beautiful flowers to plant, or maybe a fairy garden or what about a gift certificate to choose her own garden accessories?
I am pretty excited about my Feature Friday series which will highlight other local businesses in our area. I’ve got all kinds lined up too from coffee shops, landscaping, yoga studios, jewelry designers, a massage therapist, local artists and so much more. If you own a local business and would like the opportunity to be featured for a future Feature Friday, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with FEATURE FRIDAY in the subject line. Tell me a little about yourself.
I am 39 years old. My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for 18 years. We actually started dating in high school. We moved from New Philadelphia to Dover almost 4 years ago. We have 2 sons, Mason (14) and Gunner (11). I enjoy watching my boys’ sporting events and I love being outside. I absolutely love to travel and love warm weather. I also enjoy spending time with friends. I think it’s very important for busy moms and wives to maintain friendships and have that time to themselves. We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 donkeys, 2 goats, a mini pony, 8 chickens and a guinea pig. Needless to say I adore animals! In my spare time I am involved with helping with local benefits such as Tuscarawas County Humane society and Big Brothers Big Sisters. I believe in giving back to such a wonderful community that supports my family and our business. I personally try to do my best to treat everyone with kindness and never to judge anyone. I am a very loving, compassionate and outgoing person.
Would you please tell us a little about your business journey? Maybe your first memory/aha moment that guided you into going down this particular path?
We are a full service garden center and landscaping company. We have owned this business since Fall of 2003. How we bought this business is a very ironic story. I was pregnant with my youngest son and was bed ridden with a high risk pregnancy so I could not work and was therefore laid off. My husband was a truck driver for Fleming Foods and they had just gone out of business. Needless to say this was a very stressful time for us. My husband came down to chat because he was friends with the current owner at the time. He wanted to sell and since my husband had gone to Buckeye Career Center for landscaping, we decided to give this a try. My background was in retail, management and basic accounting, so we made a perfect team. Our struggle has turned into the most amazing blessing. A lot of hours and hard work but definitely worth it.
Where is Stutzman’s Landscaping located? How long have you been in business?
We are located at 1138 Commercial Avenue in New Philadelphia. We have been in business for 11 years and the owner before us for 15 years prior.
What are some of the services and products that you offer? How will this benefit your customer?
We are a full service garden center carrying everything from annuals, vegetables, perennials, trees, shrubs, outdoor decor, fountains, bird baths, statues, fertilizers, pond supplies, plant care supplies, mulch, top soil, gravel, etc. We also do all landscape services such as mowing, trimming, mulching, Spring clean up, Fall clean up, build patios and retaining walls, fertilizing, pond installation, swimming pool installation and snow plowing. Our main focus is customer service and providing our customers with quality products and a friendly staff.
Do you have a favorite plant/flower? Why this one?
My favorite flower is the Gerber Daisy. I love the brightness and size of their blooms and can’t help but smile when I see one!
Describe an average day in your life on a work day…
At this time of year our days are very chaotic. We are getting the garden center ready and shrubs, trees and flowers are arriving daily. I start my day doing the paperwork from the prior day and doing invoices and estimates. Then I unload the deliveries, price the products and load mulch. Needless to say I am rather dirty at the end of day.
Work related or not, what are some of your favorite-must-always-have-with-you things?
I will not go anywhere without my sunglasses. I have very sensitive eyes and have to wear them constantly. Oddly enough I also always have a tissue with me (those that know me are laughing I’m sure). Yet again my eyes are sensitive and always watering.
Is there anything new and exciting happening in 2015 for Stutzman’s?
We have recently brought on Shelly Cozart to help with our marketing which we are looking forward to. My husband and I are both too busy to focus on that but know how important it is. The ideas she has are fabulous so this should be a great addition for us!
